Life From Death

"Is the distinction between living for Christ and dying for Him, after all, so great? Furthermore, to live for God is to die daily" (pp. 9-10).

What a powerful point that encapsulates the definition of discipleship - to live for Christ is literally to die daily - to give up our lives daily to serve Christ. This sounds miserable, doesn't it? To die to my own desires and personal ambitions to serve Christ and labor for Christ's kingdom? Yet, the testimony of those who have done it, and the promise of Scripture, is that those who do it are those who find true life.

John 12: 24-25 - Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life."

Truly, as Jim said it, "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose." It is those who seek to live for themselves and hold on to their lives who lose it, and it is those who give it up for Christ who truly gain it.

Amen, let us give up our lives for Christ!
