A Cost-benefit Obedience?

"Jim's attitude was Esther's: 'If I perish, I perish' " (p.33).

How often do I weigh the cost of obedience? I think to myself "if I obey, it will cost me this...if I disobey, it will cost me this," as if obedience were an option. Jim modeled early in his life, a mentality of obedience at any cost - he did not have a cost-benefit mentality. If obedience was going to cost him everything - he was ready to pay it, because first and foremost, His whole allegiance belonged to his King. This is the proper attitude of the disciple of Christ that I want to imitate: uncompromising obedience to my King. May my attitude in my daily life toward my daily decisions be uncompromising obedience - and if I'm tired b/c of lack of sleep, then I am tired; if I miss out on an opportunity to advance myself somehow, then I miss out; if I perish, I perish...
